April 13th Market News

Spring, and Sprig, have finally, finally sprung! To usher in the season we are delighted to announce a sneak appearance of a new summer market vendor-Sprig FlowerTruck. Conceived of by Scarsdale native Dana Karin, the truck is a restored Portland snow plow that now serves as Westchester’s first mobile flower shop. It spent six months in New Hampshire getting retrofitted to be as beautiful as the flowers it transports. Dana sources all of her greenery from local greenhouses and farms and is committed to supporting sustainable growers. She’ll be at the market weekly come June but you can get a sneak peek tomorrow!

Cooking for Passover? Try this Sephardic recipe of chicken tagine that can be made a day in advance. You can stop by Stone & Thistleor Southtown Farms for the chicken and Kariba Farms for the dried apricots and walnuts.

If you’re a guest for Seder and in need a unique host/ess gift,  stop by guest vendor The Bow Knife for handcrafted mezzalunas, cutting boards, bowls, and bow knives.

Celebrating Easter? Head to Southtown Farms for the traditional Easter Ham. Matt’s hams are hardwood smoked, nitrate-free, and come in a variety of sizes.

Does the warm weather tickle your green thumb? Head to the market to get started on your vegetable garden with the help of transplants from Homegrown Nurseries. Nick Storrs, the man behind the plants, is an instructor at the Botanical Gardens and grows his transplants in the propagation sheds at Lyndhurst. He’ll have onion, leek, basil, rosemary, arugula, chard, and artichoke starters.

See you at the Market!
